ChromeCOnnect Setup for IT Personnel

What is the Windows App (previously Remote Desktop)?
The Windows App, which was previously Microsoft Remote Desktop, enables a user to access an instance of Windows from a separate device.

The ChromeConnect, when powered up and connected to the provided router, will begin starting multiple instances of Windows 10 Pro. These instances of Windows 10 are administratively locked so that your students cannot modify or install their own programs on the device. However, there is a single shared folder for students to save their robot projects in. This ensures that each ChromeBook is able to access all projects, in case multiple students end up sharing the same ChromeBook.

As each Windows 10 instance comes online, it will connect to the provided Router. Each instance will be assigned a static IP address. This IP address will need to be connected to within the Windows App once the student connects to the ChromeConnect Router.

The ChromeConnect uses a local router to broadcast a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), labelled as the ChromeConnect. Both the ChromeConnect and the Router are intentionally kept separate from your existing school WLAN in order to ensure student safety and privacy.

The ChromeConnect System is incapable of accessing your Student’s ChromeBook systems, as the Windows App does not allow the ChromeBooks to be the host for the system, and ChromeBooks are not powerful enough to run Windows 10 itself. If you have further questions, please email [email protected]
IT Personnel Installation Instructions
As the IT personnel, all that is required will be for you to install the Windows App on the ChromeBooks of the students that will be using the ChromeConnect.

The teacher will be the one going through the first time setup for connecting to the ChromeConnect. They will need the ChromeConnect password to be able to connect to it, which will be given to them by one of our trainers when setup is being done.
  • On the ChromeBook, find the Google Play app and click on it
  • In the search bar, search for Windows App
  • Find the correct app and install. The app icon should like the image to the right.
