Ultrasonic Distance Sensors use high frequency sound to determine the distance of an object directly in front. These are used to help your robot avoid objects while self navigating. For ages 12+
This is another common sensor used in robotics for distance/range detection. It uses ultrasonic sound to determine the distance of an object in front of it. The display is a distance in inches detected by the sensor.
These sensors can accurately detect an object within approx 60 inches. Ultrasonic Ping sensors are very accurate. Ultrasonic Ping sensors are not subject to interference by the sun. Ultrasonic sensors do have trouble with some cloth materials.
The HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor uses sonar to determine distance to an object like bats or dolphins do. It offers excellent range accuracy and stable readings in an easy-to-use package. It operation is not affected by sunlight or black material like Sharp rangefinders are (although acoustically soft materials like cloth can be difficult to detect).
